What is Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)?

How to Calculate BMR
Over the years, scientists have created different math formulas to estimate BMR based on your age, weight, height, and gender. The most famous and accurate one used today is called the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation.
If you want to do the math yourself, here is what the formula looks like in metric units (kilograms and centimeters):
- For Men: BMR = (10 × weight) + (6.25 × height) - (5 × age) + 5
- For Women: BMR = (10 × weight) + (6.25 × height) - (5 × age) - 161
