What Are Roman Numerals?
Roman numerals are a numeral system originating in ancient Rome. They use combinations of letters from the Latin alphabet — I, V, X, L, C, D, and M — to represent values. Unlike our modern decimal system, Roman numerals do not use place value in the same way and have no symbol for zero.

Rules for Roman Numerals
Additive Rule
Quando un simbolo più piccolo o uguale segue uno più grande, aggiungi i valori. Esempio: VI = 5 + 1 = 6
Subtractive Rule
Quando un simbolo più piccolo ne precede uno più grande, sottrai quello più piccolo. Esempio: IV = 5 - 1 = 4. È possibile sottrarre solo I, X e C.
Repetition Rule
I, X, C e M possono essere ripetuti fino a 3 volte consecutivamente. V, L e D non vengono mai ripetuti. Esempio: III = 3, ma IIII non è valido.
