What is the Gravel Calculator?
The Gravel Calculator helps you determine the exact amount of gravel needed for your project. It handles rectangular, circular, and triangular areas, and can also calculate weight from volume, estimate material cost, determine coverage area, and convert between volume and weight units.
8 Calculation Modes
Rectangular
V = L × W × D. Driveways, walkways, patios.
Circular
V = π × r² × D. Round patios, fire pits.
Triangular
V = ½ × B × H × D. Wedge-shaped areas.
Weight
W = V × Density. Default: 105 lbs/ft³.
Cost
Cost = Volume × Price per unit.
Coverage
Area = Volume / Depth.
Convert Volume
ft³ ↔ yd³ ↔ m³.
Convert Weight
lbs ↔ tons ↔ kg.
Common Gravel Densities
| Type | Density (lbs/ft³) |
|---|---|
| Crushed Stone | ~105 |
| Pea Gravel | ~95 |
| River Rock | ~100 |
| Limestone | ~95 |
| Marble Chips | ~95 |
Important Notes
- Add 5–10% extra for compaction and settling.
- Typical depth for driveways: 4–6 inches; walkways: 2–3 inches.
- Gravel is usually sold by the cubic yard or ton.
- Cost estimates are approximate; prices vary by region and supplier.
