What is Mulch?

Mulch is a material spread over soil to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and improve soil health. Common types include wood chips, bark, straw, compost, and rubber.

Formulas

Rectangular:
V = L × W × D

Circular:
V = π × r² × D

Triangular:
V = (1/2) × B × H × D

Coverage:
A = V / D

Weight:
W = V × Density

Recommended Depth

  • Flower beds: 2-3 inches
  • Vegetable gardens: 2-4 inches
  • Tree rings: 3-4 inches
  • Pathways: 4-6 inches

Important Notes

  • All dimensions must be greater than zero
  • Depth is typically measured in inches
  • Results are rounded to 4 decimal places
  • Add 5-10% extra for settling
