Guia do usuário completo
O que é um CD (Certificado de Depósito)?
A certificate of deposit (CD) is a savings product offered by banks and credit unions with a fixed interest rate and a fixed term. You agree to leave your money deposited for the term length—from a few months to several years—in exchange for a typically higher rate than regular savings accounts. At maturity, you receive your initial deposit plus the accrued interest.
A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t)
P = principal, r = annual rate, n = compoundings per year, t = years
This calculator shows how much your CD will be worth at maturity, how much interest you earn, and how your balance grows over time. You can compare different term lengths and compounding frequencies.
Conceitos-chave
APY (Annual Percentage Yield)
The annual rate of return including compound interest. APY is what banks typically advertise and is higher than the nominal rate when interest compounds more than once per year.
Compounding Frequency
How often interest is added to your balance—daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. More frequent compounding generally means slightly higher effective returns.
Prazo
The length of time you commit to leave your money in the CD. Longer terms often offer higher APYs but your funds are locked until maturity (or you pay an early-withdrawal penalty).
Como usar esta calculadora
- Enter the initial deposit amount you plan to put into the CD.
- Enter the APY (annual percentage yield) offered by the bank.
- Select the CD term (e.g., 12 months, 24 months).
- Choose how often interest compounds (daily is common and gives the highest effective return).
- Click Calculate to see the final amount, interest earned, effective APY, and charts.
- Use the comparison table to see how different term lengths would perform at the same rate.
Compreendendo seus resultados
Montante Final
The total value of your CD at maturity: your initial deposit plus all interest earned.
Juros ganhos
The difference between the final amount and your initial deposit. This is the earnings from the CD over the term.
APY eficaz
The annualized return after accounting for compounding. When compounding is more frequent than annual, effective APY is slightly higher than the stated rate.
Deposit vs Interest Chart
A doughnut chart showing how much of your final balance is your original deposit (principal) vs. interest earned.
Balance Growth Chart
A line chart showing how your balance grows month by month (or at sampled points) over the term.
Notas importantes
- This calculator is for educational and estimation purposes only. Actual CD terms and rates vary by institution.
- Early withdrawal usually incurs a penalty (often a portion of interest earned). Check your bank's terms before opening a CD.
- CDs at FDIC-insured banks (USA) are protected up to $250,000 per depositor, per bank. This makes them one of the safest places to park cash.
- For specific product details and rates, consult your bank or a financial advisor.
Tips
- Compare CD terms: longer terms often have higher APYs but lock your money longer.
- Daily compounding typically yields the highest effective return for a given APY.
- Use the comparison table to see 3-month through 5-year terms at your chosen rate.
Compounding Reference
Interest can compound:
- Daily (365 times per year)
- Monthly (12), Quarterly (4), Semi-annually (2), Annually (1)
