Roof Shapes
- Gable: Two sloping sides meeting at a ridge
- Hip: Four sloping sides meeting at a ridge
- Flat: Horizontal or nearly horizontal roof
Roof Pitch
Pitch is expressed as rise in inches per 12 inches of run. Common pitches:
4:12 - Low slope
6:12 - Moderate slope
8:12 - Steep slope
12:12 - Very steep (45°)
Material Coverage
Asphalt Shingles: 33.33 ft²/bundle
Wood Shingles: 25 ft²/bundle
Tiles/Metal: 100 ft²/square
Waste Factor
Waste factor accounts for cutting, trimming, and material loss. Typical values:
