What are Weight Watchers SmartPoints?

Weight Watchers SmartPoints is a point system that assigns values to foods based on their nutritional content. Unlike simple calorie counting, SmartPoints considers calories, saturated fat, sugar, and protein to encourage healthier food choices.

Foods higher in calories, saturated fat, and sugar have more points, while foods higher in protein have fewer points. This system helps guide you toward nutrient-dense foods that support weight loss and healthy eating.

SmartPoints Formula

The SmartPoints formula calculates points based on four nutritional factors:

Points = (Calories ÷ 33) + (Saturated Fat ÷ 4) + (Sugar ÷ 9) - (Protein ÷ 10)

Calories: Divided by 33. Higher calories = more points.

Saturated Fat: Divided by 4. Higher saturated fat = more points.

Sugar: Divided by 9. Higher sugar = more points.

Protein: Divided by 10 and subtracted. Higher protein = fewer points (reduces total points).

Daily Points Allowance

Your daily points allowance is personalized based on your age, gender, height, weight, and activity level. Typical daily allowances range from 23 to 71 points.

In addition to daily points, Weight Watchers members also receive weekly points (typically 14-28 points) that can be used throughout the week for special occasions or treats.

Understanding Points Status
