How much protein do you actually need?
The official answer and the practical answer are different numbers, and the gap between them confuses everyone. The RDA — 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight — is the amount that prevents deficiency in a sedentary adult. It was never meant as an optimum. The moment you add training, dieting, or age into the picture, the research points considerably higher: most sports nutrition bodies now land somewhere between 1.4 and 2.0 g/kg for people who exercise regularly.

Spreading protein through the day
Total daily intake matters most, but distribution isn't nothing. Two protein myths worth retiring

But in healthy adults, controlled studies up to around 2 g/kg and beyond keep failing to find harm. Eating 150 g of protein a day with healthy kidneys is not a medical event.
